Evolution 2016 is the joint conference of the American Society of Naturalists, the Society for the Study of Evolution, and the Society of Systematic Biologists that will be held in Austin, TX from June 17-21.
This meeting will be the premier opportunity for sharing research on evolutionary biology in 2016. Austin is an incredible destination with a convention center in the heart of town that is surrounded by great restaurants and several famous entertainment districts. We anticipate 1,600-2000 attendees, approximately 1,000 talks, and 250+ posters. The annual iEvoBio satellite conference will also occur.
Social activities will include an opening reception with evolutionary-themed pop-up art exhibit and Gould Prize lecture, mixers during each of three evening poster sessions, and a Super Social at the Palmer Events Center on the final night (no speeches). With the exception of only a small additional charge for the Super Social (thanks to sponsorship from UT Austin), all of this is included with your registration. The Palmer Center is a spectacular indoor/outdoor venue located with an urban park of oak and cypress with a view of Lady Bird Lake. Dinner will be catered by an array of food trucks for which Austin is so famous. These aren't your standard hot-dog stands. The Palmer Center is walking distance from the Congress Avenue Bridge, home to the world's largest urban bat colony. Between 750,000 and 1.5 million Mexican free-tailed bats reside under the bridge each summer and emerge at dusk to feed. Be sure to stay for the Super Social and check them out. The bridge and a bat are featured in our conference logo.
This is the first conference under our new centralized meeting organization structure and I am confident that it will be one of the most productive and enjoyable meetings yet. On behalf of everyone who's helped, I look forward to welcoming you to Austin.
